Product Description Now the best-selling book of its kind has gotten even better. This revised and expanded second edition of Ittelson's master work will give you that firm grasp of "the numbers" necessary for business success.
With more than 100,000 copies in print, Financial Statements is a perfect introduction to financial accounting for non-financial managers, stock-market investors, undergraduate business and MBA students, lawyers, lenders, entrepreneurs, and more. Most introductory finance and accounting books fail either because they are written "by accountants for accountants" or the authors "dumb down" the concepts until they are virtually useless. Financial Statements deftly shows that all this accounting and financial-reporting stuff is not rocket science and that you can understand it!
Ittelson empowers non-financial managers by clearly and simply demonstrating how the balance sheet, income statement and cash flow statement work together to offer a "snapshot" of any company's financial health. Every term is defined in simple, understandable language. Every concept is explained with a basic, straightforward transaction example. And with the book's uniquely visual approach, you'll be able to see exactly how each transaction affects the three key financial statement of the enterprise. Two new major sections with nine new chapters were added to this revised second edition of Financial Statements, simply the clearest and most comprehensive introduction to financial reporting available.

Great for Students, Too!!! July 16, 2010 Cameron Dougherty (New Jersey) I picked this book up as a graduated high school senior on my way to college for Accounting. This book provided an exceptional basis for which to build upon in college. After reading this book, I'm confident that my future college courses will come much more easily because I already know the basics.
Excellent Financial Book for any Entrepreneur June 12, 2010 Jon Thornham (Las Vegas, NV, USA) Over the past three years I have been learning about business and starting companies. I am an engineer by trade and like to see how things work when I am learning about them. This book is an excellent step-by-step guide of a mock company and also a great introduction to finance. I have read finance books in the past but none have given a clearer picture then this book. Even if your not an engineer I highly recommend this book. I will be very thankful one day because of this book.
Outstanding resource for the non-financial manager May 9, 2010 Robin (Bethesda, Moldova, Republic of) Businesses are filled with gifted, driven and dedicated managers who trained for years to be good at their jobs--and who lack the most basic financial knowledge. These professionals can get along for years, indeed for entire careers, in the dark about their companies' financial health, but they will usually be better at their jobs if they have a good idea of where the ship is headed. If they are promoted to senior level positions, they may find themselves embarassed when discussing the company's strengths and weaknesses. Worst of all they may end up wondering why they were never promoted above a certain level--when the reason is basic financial literacy.
Financial Statements is a place to start, that is basic enough to make the nonfinancial professional ready for the basics. This is good because, once a person has been promoted above a certain level its embarrassing to ask obvious questions. The writing style is fun and often witty. It can be read, read and studied, or skimmed and kept in the desk drawer for access to basic information.
If you majored in history, mastered in Human Resources and want to understand the hows and whys of your company's financial statement, this is a good place to start. The book is fun to read and far less dry than the non-financial manager may expect.
Financial Statements: A Step-by-Step Guide to Understanding and Creating Financial Reports May 2, 2010 Randy Van Middlesworth I like the way this book uses an adult theme to review or explain the financial papers of a business. This book is good for high school on up. It is well written, has some exercises to help understand how the these papers tie together. I would recommend this book.
Financial Statements review April 24, 2010 R. Lueckemeyer (Austin, TX) This book is exactly the type of information I was looking for. It is very well laid out and defined on the subjects. I will learn and put into daily use many of the items due to this book.
